Overview of OA's Job Design Process:

  1. Perform a task-level job analysis (say 1000 tasks)
  2. Perform Task Clustering to define Modules of Tasks Co-Performance (These Modules Define Job Performance Dimensions (say 40 dimensions))
  3. Perform a Case Clustering to define Empirical Job Types, say 10-30)
  4. Link & Rate Salient Factors for Tasks (e.g., People-Data-Things, Conceptual-Manual, Learning Difficulty, Consequences of inadequate performance)
  5. Describe both traditional classifications & job types using Tasks & Performance Dimensions
  6. Differentiate jobs based on demographics, task performance, and salient factor loadings
  7. Compare adjacent jobs (grade-level) for career progression clues and level of demand differences
  8. Assess job satisfaction by job to determine systemic problems for job redesign/intervention
  9. Repeat the process for similar job families considered for consolidation
  10. Formulate restructuring scenarios
  11. If Using the JST Method: 
    • Construct and Model new structure with training  pipeline & deployment sites for a 30-year run.
    • Identify job types with projected shortages and/or rotation imbalances
    • Adjust job type definition or expand training capacity or alter deployment strategy to achieve balance
  12. Run recommendations and findings past affected parties
  13. Recommend new structure to the parent organization.
